The Bahrain Police force wanted to improve their response time to Police call outs and gain better visibility of where their car and foot patrol police were located. They also felt that productivity gains could be made, resulting in better public visibility of the Police force.
Atlas Telecom and Pinpoint Communications came up with an innovative Vehicle Tracking Solution that would leverage the existing TETRA (TErrestrial Trunked Radio) radio network that the cars and portables were already using.
The Pinpoint Tracker 2000 series has the ability to not only pinpoint the exact location of the police vehicle or portable units (via GPS) it also has a compatible interface with the TETRA network that enable the data to be sent to the vehicle tracking server.
"The use of TETRA as the digital carrier for data from the Tracker 2000 has enabled Bahrain Police to leverage an existing investment saving money and on-going telecommunications costs"
Dispatch operators at Bahrain Police can now track the exact location, speed and direction of a patrol car or foot patrolman. They can then identify the closest patrolman and direct to the location. The added benefit is the operator can immediately inform other officers or customers of the exact ETA of the patrol car or foot patrol.
"Since installing the Pinpoint AVM our patrolmen and cars are sticking to the designated routes and productivity has improved."
Reports on a wide range of criteria provide detailed management information that can help improve route planning; resource levels; patrol car misuse and actual path travelled.
A unique feature of the Pinpoint system is the enhanced resolution feature. At present we log reports via TETRA every 15 seconds, this gives us pretty good real time information. However in the event of siren been turned on we wanted more current information. Pinpoint and Atlas Telecom came up with the a solution that enabled this trigger to switch transmission to every 5 seconds, this greatly enhances our resolution and allows dispatch operators and command officers to monitor the situation on a near real time basis.
"Our officer’s sense of security has been greatly enhanced as they know that the command post has up to date information about their location and status"
The Bahrain Police have installed over 500 vehicle tracking units in patrol cars and 200 personal tracking via a GPS enabled Tetra handset.
