Telstra recently closed down its 2G GSM mobile network, signaling the end of an era in Australian telecommunications - an estimated 87 billion phone calls were made on the service following its inception in 1993.
"We launched the 2G network over 20 years ago and in that time, it has provided great service for our customers," Andy Volard, director of device management at Telstra, told IT News.
"But like many good things, the time has come to say farewell."
Telstra recently closed down its 2G GSM mobile network, signaling the end of an era, with Optus and Vodafone to follow.
If you are currently using Telstra, Optus or Vodafone's 2G service, don't get left behind
Pinpoint Communications have received a number of queries from customers about the future of the 2G telematics devices installed in their vehicles and equipment.
Pinpoint recommends that customers still using this service should replace their hardware - especially those operating on a Telstra, Optus or Vodafone 2G SIM - as soon as possible.
Pinpoint customers using a telematics IVU with a Telstra, Optus or Vodafone 2G SIM should replace their hardware as soon as possible.
The IVU in your vehicle will no longer work with Telstra - and will soon also be redundant with Optus and Vodafone when they shut down their 2G networks.
Pinpoint offers a range of GPS tracking and telematics devices that support 3G networks.
