3 reasons you need machinery monitoring telematics for Christmas

If your business relies on heavy machinery for your operations, you know how important it is that you protect the thousands you invest in purchasing and maintaining it. Telematics monitoring is an efficient way of keeping an eye on your equipment - not only to safeguard against theft but also to keep track of maintenance reports and ensure it is not being misused.

Pinpoint Communications wanted to guide you through the three reasons machinery monitoring telematics should be top of your Christmas list!

Organised equipment theft in construction costs businesses around $50 million annually.

Preventing theft and misuse

The Construction and Mining Equipment Industry Group estimate organised equipment theft in the construction industry costs businesses around $50 million annually. This isn't the only sector affected - Australian Institute of Criminology statistics from their rural farm crime report indicate high rates of theft too. Of farmers who had experienced a crime in the previous 12 months, over 20 per cent reported machinery theft.

Equipment telematics offers users remote monitoring at all times. This prevents cases of misuse in the field, and also means you can track your machinery if it is stolen. No solution is foolproof - but our Assets, Fleet and Works Management (AFWM) solution provides you with firm evidence for police investigation.

Using telematics technology, you can more easily monitor your machinery. Keeping track of your heavy equipment remotely is easier with telematics technology.

Monitoring for maintenance and use

Working out how often you use your equipment and when it needs to be maintained is key to deciding how to keep track of your heavy equipment. If you work in the mining sector, you could have hundreds of pieces of machinery on a site spanning kilometres. Trying to track repair records under these circumstances, especially in a sector that enforces compliance so strictly, can be tricky.

Telematics are an easy way to monitor onsite equipment and immediately access maintenance history, repair reports and other data that can inform your operations. Software provider Teletrac Navman indicates businesses across multiple sectors are now looking to telematics for a primary function of equipment tracking and maintenance. This indicates the ease with which you can use the AFWM system to build a complete picture of your field assets.

Logging data for the long term

Using AFWM telematics to monitor heavy machinery offers users a databank of information, not only about their equipment, but also about how, when and why it is used. Analysing this data, business operators can make changes to their day-to-day or employee scheduling to make their operations more efficient. Telematics can also be used to log fuel use, which is an advantage to businesses trying to claim fuel tax rebates.
